Free Love Magic!
These are a couple of pictures from our Very-Fairy-Friday (more to come soon!). I’m finding it difficult to put into words the magic of this day. Giving away Free Flowers is something I do a lot and is very dear to my heart. Giving away Free Lemonade was also a joy (and little did anyone know I blessed it with the affirmation “May anyone who drinks this experience abundance and joy!”
). My most favorite part of the day, however, was giving away Free Hugs as I walked down Main Street with my fleet of fairies! Perhaps the Bliss Fairy can relate as I tally up the highlights of this wonderful experience. Reading her post of when she did this in Guam made me feel joyfully anticipate doing it as well in my little town of Essex, CT. And it really has changed me in ways I can’t express. It’s made me think that perhaps something as simple as FREE HUGS can transform a person, a perspective, and maybe even a whole town.
FREE HUGS Highlights!
* The people who said “This makes my day!”
* The people who very somberly and seriously said “I could use a hug.”
* The people who waved at us from their cars.
* Hugging Ray, the UPS driver, in the middle of the street while people in their cars patiently waited and witnessed the spectacle with big smiles on their faces.
* Hugging a very chic (and delighted) French couple and maybe giving them a different perspective of America (or at least Connecticut!).
* Having teenage girls and boys readily accept a hug, because even they know no one is too cool for free love.
* The little children who eagerly hugged back thinking there was nothing out of the ordinary about hugging strange fairies!
* Having Tom come out from behind the counter at the Post Office for a free hug and then he returned the love by giving the children some free stickers.
* Hugging a handsome cyclist who happened to be my husband, stopping by to cheer on his winged-wife.
* The people who said “No thank you” to hugs but received them anyway (because that’s just who I am!) and smiled in spite of themselves. I think perhaps this was my favorite kind of hug to give ~ not because I was “forcing” it on them, but more because I felt like I was ENGULFING them and SWEEPING them away with me to some place brighter. I think the people who say “No” to hugs probably need them most of all.
That night I laid awake still buzzing from the magic, when something occurred to me ~ although my FREE HUGS sign at first glance appears to be an offer, perhaps it could have also been viewed as a request. After all, I benefited from it more than anyone else…because I got the most hugs of all.
THANK YOU, Everyone. Thank you.
My Everyday Magic
* Writing all that out for myself and being able to share it with all of you!
* A really fun and magical visit with The Butterfly Faery and her boys.
* An incredibly fun day at the fair with our friends that went much, MUCH longer than we ever anticipated!
* An afternoon wine-date with our neighbors today.
* A weekend full of friends!
* Feeling blessed beyond belief!
* Having the opportunity (right now) to go back and catch up on all the magic posts I’ve missed!
I love you all and I’m sending virtual hugs to every poster and reader ~ can you feel it?

More Very-Fairy-Friday Highlights! (‘Cause I just can’t stop talking about it!)
* THE CHILDREN!!! While the Free Hugs turned out to be my arena, the children led the way in everything else and it was so magical to witness!
* They held the signs and encouraged people to pull over in their cars.
* They had no qualms about going into businesses on Main Street to hand out their free flowers.
* They didn’t take it personally when someone said “No Thanks” to a flower (though I thought it was unacceptable that someone would say “no” to a beautiful flower fairy, so I smothered the party-poopers in hugs! Tee-hee!)
* They were the perfect hostesses at the Free Lemonade stand ~ offering anybody and everybody some perfect-pink-refreshments!
* So many children whom I didn’t personally know (yet!) showed up all dressed up and ready to party ~ I found this incredibly wonderful!!!
* Little Clara, who was also a sparkling soul at Sparkling Essex Day, showing up with a HUGE smile!
* The sidewalk art, the bubbles, hula-hoops, and balloon animals!!!!!
* The CHILDREN really made the MAGIC of the day. And it makes me smile to think this is just a normal every-day occurrence in the life of their already magical childhoods!
* highfive for the free hugs! I teared up while reading b/c the love I felt was so intense…and I’m in southernCalifornia!
)
*& cheers to the kiddos! perhaps smothering some the hesitant adults in free hugs released their inner-child…and reminds them that we dont need to be children to feel that energy ( i hope
wow so many good vibes!
MEM:
*waking up in peace.
*the groggy weather – a nice change from the heat wave!
*being offered the prospect of working gigs – which means a lot to me as, in my field, I’ve found it difficult to prove myself &/or be taken seriously. Recently, I’ve recieved nothing but compliments for my contributions and this offer to discuss potential projects was definitly a confidence builder!

walking to the farmer’s market with our neighbors, and back again
the wonderful way a day that was way too hot at home turned into a perfect afternoon at the lake!
swimming! the water was nice and cold.
taking out a canoe: me, hubby, our 6 year old and the 4 1/2 year old from next door, who was very excited to see the familiar lack from new angles. Singing Row row your boat with them, and trying (unsuccessfully) to teach them to sing it as a round.
the kingfishers we saw skimming over the water, the fish swimming below, the pond weed that looked so cool under the water! the bugs floating on top, dancing in the late afternoon sunlight, that started the kids singing The Jitterbug song.
two hawks circling around and around each other and slowly moving across the sky above us.
knowing as I type my hubby is cooking a yummy dinner.
What GREAT summer magic!!!!
Dear Kate,
Happy that Very Fairy Fridays a sucess. The pics. are great, can’t wait to see more.
I think its great that you could take over a very old New England town, dignified and proper. I can only imagine what the shop keepers
and residents think of the Sparkle Fairy who appears on a fairly regular basis to stir up the pixie dust on the streets of Essex!
Hooray to all the local faries and the children who made it all magical.
You’d better start thinking about what kind of float you’re going to have in the Essex Christmas Parade!!!!
Love,
Popsidoodles
Well now, a Christmas float ~ THERE’S a thought!!!! Thanks for the LOVE!
