Bliss and The Musical Monday!

In tradition of our dear Song Fairy this Fairy of Bliss is entering this day as being quite the musical monday indeed. My beloved spent most the morning installing an MP3 input compatible stereo system in my CRV (Thanks Santa, now I can listen to my music without having to fumble thought a stack of CD’s) so that later in the day when we would head off to do our post holiday errands we could listen to some groovy in transit tunes. Our errands were made effortless as the girls just sat back in their car seats enjoying the beats right along with us. The highlight of my Musical Monday Magic would have to be when my 3yr old exclaimed loudly in the middle of the Sublime ballot “I like this musics mama”. Ahhh good times and great jams with the Fam!!!

My Everyday Magic:

Cleaning post holiday happenings

Spending the day with my family (yippy DH didn’t have to work today)

Songs from my past flooding me with memories & nostalgic feelings

Christmas dinner leftovers

Baby at an age that her and big sis can now actively play together

3yr olds and the darndest things they say

Taking little bites from each piece of chocolate in the box and not feeling guilty about it

A shift in energy and wielding it’s magic

Water: cleansing, quenching, & balancing

Wii fun

and Me, I just LOVE her!!!

That’s been my harmonious list of Monday Magic! What’s making your heart sing today? Please serenade us with your magic and post in the comments below. BLISS KISSES xxx

Musical Mondays!

Happy last Monday in November and thanks for visiting today! This is the place to be when you’re ready for more magic in your life. Together we share all that’s working in our lives plus what we wish for and aspire to. By reading the posts here and sharing some of your thoughts and observations, we’re all uplifted, and some powerful good energy gets stirred up!

Here’s my music magic today: I recently got asked to join a renowned singer/songwriter at a family concert he’s doing in our area. I consider this a milestone in my music career. He’s a Grammy nominee and has traveled all over the world sharing his beautiful, life-affirming songs. Here’s more about him: http://www.redgrammer.com/ And he wants to sing—with—-me.

I almost said no. This will be a stretch for me and take me out of my comfort zone. I know I’ll be feeling those stabs of adrenaline and pre-show jitters more so than usual. And I’ve been doing shows for many years. But then I thought, “if I don’t do it how will I feel?” You know the answer to that. So I’m doing it. Gulp.

Could this be a result of all those goal-settings and raising-the-bar affirmations I’ve been doing? : )

What do you aspire to? Do you spend much time thinking “in your wildest dreams” type thoughts? If there’s one thing I’ve gotten from being a regular here at MEM, it’s definitely: Go for your Dreams! Focus on what you most desire in Life! Believe in yourself, and know that we believe in you too! Here is a community that knows the power of positive thinking!!!

Musical Mondays!

Greetings dear Reader and welcome this day to a beautiful new you!

I dedicate this Music Monday to our local libraries. I am enormously grateful to have a lovely place where I can go often and get things for free. Besides the time-honored and beloved books, there’s a whole array of different genres of music on CDs to check out: Classical, Jazz, Showtunes, Rock, Country, Blues, Experimental, Spiritual, Latin, Popular, Reggae, Rap—to name a few—and of course, music especially for Kids & Families. Car trips are a great way to try out some new sounds you may have never considered before. And those of you with children can treat the family to a steady stream of new and different sounds. A big huge Thank You to our public libraries!!!

This month is noteworthy to me in a special way: it marks a whole year of getting to be a Fairy Contributor on MEM! Thanks to our fearless and fantastic Sparkle Fairy, Kate, I was invited to be one of the regulars who opens the daily posts. What a heart-warming experience this has been! We regulars get to open the day by sharing our unique views and dearest wishes as we reach out to you in the pursuit of noting and celebrating everyday magic together! Each and every day, you can come here and brighten the whole day by reading, sharing, and stirring up all the magic that you find in your daily round.

Now the time has come for me to step aside and make room for some brand new fairy energy to come in! So next week will be my “swan song” as the regular Monday contributor. And I’m excited to see who will emerge here bringing her one-of-a-kind voice to the forefront and shining her light in new ways! Somewhere out there is a new fairy waiting in the wings about to make a bold appearance—we’re all in for something wonderful!!

The Song Fairy!

Musical Mondays!

Greetings dear Reader! Welcome to My Everyday Magic! I’ll always remember when I first found this site, now fondly referred to as MEM. The Sparkle Fairy started all this magic sharing business here, because as she put it, “Who couldn’t use some more magic in their lives?!” We share the things, big and little, that are working in our daily round, and by being thankful, open the way to attract more good.

It especially resonated with me for two reasons: 1. I believe in the loving power of appreciation and having an “attitude of gratitude”, and 2. I believe in magic!!! I’ve kept a “Gratitude Journal” for several years now. It feels so good to be mindful of all the positive stuff that happens. And what could be more powerfully motivating than: feeling good and having fun!!

Saturday I experienced a powerful dose of both when I did a benefit concert for a local Montessori School. Getting to work with a team of dedicated parents was marvelous. Everything was efficiently organized and planned out. The elegant hall filled up with a fun, appreciative audience of all ages, and a magical time was had by all. More and more as I share my music talents with others I acknowledge that this is “letting my light shine”. In all my rehearsing and preparation work, I affirm that as I let my light shine ever-brighter, that others are inspired and empowered to let their lights shine too. It’s a process wherein I strive to honor and give thanks to “Source”—-or whatever term you may use for a Higher Power. There is so much more to each of us than what we see on the surface!

Each of us has a light to shine. We let it shine when we hone our talents, do work that we love, honor the desires of our heart, strive to be patient and kind with ourselves and all others, and….______…. you fill in the blank!

Fill in that blank here by posting in the comments box. Share with us what you do to let your light shine. Together we will light up the world today!!

You are loved and appreciated more than you know.

Some bits of my everyday magic:

<3 Singing together with children and families—It feels so good and is so much fun!!

<3 Rainbow sitings—it just never gets old!!

<3 The Tango!

<3 Reading all the heartfelt posts and eye-opening magic here!!!

<3 Cats! If there were a universal sound for peace, it would surely be the “purr”. :D

Fairy wishes and music kisses,

The Song Fairy <3

Musical Mondays!

Greetings dear MEM Reader! Happy first Monday in November! What a magical time of year this is, with the crisp, spicy scents and brilliant colors….and the songs! We’re heading into the season of some of the most beautiful music of all time.

I have a concert coming up this Saturday which will be at one of the elegant “Women’s Clubs” in our area. This event marks the second annual benefit concert for the local Redwood Coast Montessori School. It’s a lovely group of people, and in honor of the season and of the gratitude I feel to be a part of this, I’ll be doing some songs that express thanksgiving.

One of these is a song called “I’m Lucky There’s a Sun” by Nancy and Cody Cassidy, which sweetly gives a generous list of the beauty and nature all around us. Here’s one of the verses:

“I’m glad the rains fall, the winds blow, the oceans roll and roll. I’m glad the flowers bloom, the birds sing, and the Earth spins round and round…” I’ve been practicing with the children so they can join me. We’ll also have a sign interpreter to convey these beautiful images with hand signs.

With the accompanying dreamy melody, this song expresses that we always have something to be grateful for. There is an infinite wealth and bounty of beauty, pleasure, and soul-food to enjoy and appreciate, if only we take the time to focus on it!

That’s what the Season of Light, Christmas, Winter Wonder is all about. And for those of us who share and lead songs in this season, the practice and rehearsals start weeks and months in advance. So I already have some old favorites plus some new ones well in mind.

I’ll be sharing some of these in the next few weeks, as I bring to a sweet close my year of being a Fairy Contributor for MEM!

Wishing you all the joys of the season, and the time and patience and mindfulness to enjoy all that is most dear to you and yours!!!

You’re invited to share some of what brightens your day and lifts your spirit—just follow the links and enter your comments in the box. We’re so glad you joined us here!

Fairy wishes and music kisses,

<3 Clouds—and the ethereal show they give us

<3 Strolling through the Bird Sanctuary with my DH

<3 Risotto Florentine

<3 Chats with dear ones

<3 Books and movies that make me laugh

Greetings dear MEM Reader!

Happy November 1st with all the magic and joy for you in this bountiful season!

How fun it was to share the “bird theme” in 3 installments here for the last few Musical Mondays! :D I loved hearing back from many of you about your bird observations and favorite birdsongs. Crows keep getting my attention lately, and my mum just told me about a PBS program on crows and how they might be the most intelligent critter in the animal world!

Today and tomorrow, November 1st and 2nd, is a time of celebration in many Spanish-speaking countries: Dia de los Muertos. Day of the Dead is a special time to honor our ancestors and dear friends and family members who have passed on. Check Wikipedia for some fascinating details about it.

This month marks an anniversary for me— it’s now been a whole year that I’ve been privileged to be a regular contributor for My Everyday Magic <<< MEM! It has been a joy and I feel I have gotten to know so many of you here on this magical site, created by our glittering goddess, the Princess of Purple, the Minister of Magical Missions >>>>> The Sparkle Fairy!!!!! She has been a bright and guiding star for me, and in more ways than one, helped to give me wings. My Everyday Magic is a sanctuary and a dynamic meeting-of-the-minds for all of us devoted to focusing on the positive, to giving voice on a regular basis to our gratitude and praise of Life’s bounty, and to accepting and celebrating ourselves and each other, quirks, foibles and all!

Musical Mondays!

Happy Monday Greetings, dear Reader!

From last Monday’s Music Magic:

How I love Shell’s musical notes and their joyful pattern, and hearing about Amanda and Rachel doing chores accompanied by < loud! > music, Zanna’s windsong and Bela Fleck tunes, Zanna and Kate’s mention of bird song clocks, L.J.’s rain and other Nature music, and Nichole’s field trip songs featuring pumpkins and skeletons!! Plus the variety of other magic that surfaces and gets posted here each day—-all joyful notes that give meaning and value to us all.

And now, more about Birdsong, Part III, the final installment! Birds use both songs and calls. ” Song is a loud, complex and often musical utterance used mostly by male birds.” (I didn’t know that!) “Calls, in contrast, are simpler and usually softer sounds used by both sexes to communicate alarm, hunger, aggression, and a variety of other motivational states.”

The songs of birds have been categorized as countersinging, song-matching, song duetting, and song-dueling. Fascinating! I’m sure these techniques have been the origin and inspiration for rap, techno, opera, ballads, and definitely love songs!

Thanks to a guitar student, I’ve been learning all this from her little field book, Common Birds and their Songs, with accompanying 65-min. CD.

Have you noticed anything new about the birds in your neighborhood? Birds, birdsong, bird magic, or anything that sweetens your day—-please share it with us by clicking on the title here and posting in comments below. Then we’ll all experience a little more magic in our lives!

Some bits of My Everyday Magic:

<3 Getting invited to a “musician’s potluck” and participating in some spontaneous jazzy tunes

<3 Stormy weather and the spicy crisp scent of autumn

<3 Going to a local farm to pick out a pumpkin

<3 Dh’s friend and colleague who brought me a bouquet of giant poofy sunflowers which lit up the whole room!

<3 Loving the skin I’m in : )

Musical Mondays!

Happy Monday, dear MEM Reader! May your day include some music that lifts your spirit, makes you smile big, and breathe easier!

If there were some trivia questions to answer about this Music Monday contributor, one might be Q: “what is one of her favorite scents?” (A: line-dried linens!) and another, Q: What member of the animal kingdom did she write about, connected with music? (A: birds). Well this week, those cute and song-sweet birds decided to rest on the branches over our clothes lines, after feasting on the abundance of blackberries. My favorite sheet now has long, uneven, splotchy purple stripes across it. Did you know that berries make an impressive and permanent dye? Sigh.

No matter— I truly love birdsong and the music and enchanting habits of birds. From the book, Common Birds And Their Songs, you can learn about “Bird songs—among the finest expressions of nature’s orchestra. Their music lifts our spirits, celebrates each dawning day, and heralds the passing of the seasons.” I also love reading about nonvocal sounds that are construed as songs: the drumming of woodpeckers’ beaks or of the grouse’s beating wings, and the thrumming of hummingbirds’ wings—these are classified as bird songs.

Maybe this is stirring something within you too? Sometimes as I write here about things in my daily round and connect it all to the theme of music, I can’t help but wonder, “Is this topic truly of general interest?! Will it uplift and spread some joy? Is this something MEM readers will want to spend their valuable time thinking about? I can only trust that the answer to these questions is yes.

Whatever your passion is, wherever you may find joy, however you define magic in your life, I welcome you to share some of what makes you rise up and say “yes!” to Life here today by posting in comments below!

<3 Our visiting “Alaska daughter” and seeing her photos—what an adventurous life!
